SnowCrest is now hosting our own Quake Server!

Now you can kill your friends and your enemies online, using SnowCrest's Unique Quake Server!

Why should I play on SnowCrest's Quake server, instead of one of the hundreds of other servers in the world?

SnowCrest's Quake Server is located directly on our network, meaning that you will get better ping times and lower latency to our server than you might get elsewhere. Plus, your opponents will be other SnowCrest customers, so you will finally be able to kill your neighbors online! Also, our server is running quite a few modifications to the original Quake game that make it much more interesting for multiplayer play! No other server in the world has the same combination of features, and very few have as many! All this makes for one of the best Quake experiences you can have on the Internet.

Sounds good, how do I play?

First connect to the Internet. Then, once you are online, go to the "Start" menu, and select "Run". In the open field, type in "C:\Quake\q95.bat" (without the quotes), and click the "OK" button. This assumes that you installed the registered version of Quake in the "C:\Quake" directory on your hard drive.

Once Quake starts, hit a key to get the menu, and select "Multiplayer" from the menu. Select "Join a Game" and then "TCP/IP". Where it says "Join Game At:" type in quake.snowcrest.net, and hit the Enter key. Hit the jump key (spacebar) and go frag someone!

How many people can play at one time?

A maximum of 16 players can be on our server at once. If you get a message saying the server is full, try again a little later.

What modifications are on the server?

I'm glad you asked. Click here to find out.

I like your mod, and I want to play it on my own system. Where can I download it?

Download it here. - This version includes the dogs.
Newer version. - No dogs, some balance changes, and guided missiles

What is Quake, where can I find more information about it?

Quake is the sequel to DOOM II, and it was written by ID Software. It is a first-person perspecive real-time 3D shooter, which means that you run around a dungeon with a big gun and blow other people's brains out. If this sort of thing doesn't appeal to you, then you should try another game.

There are many sites on the Internet devoted to Quake, but Stomped.com is probably the most popular.

I want to play network games, but not Quake specifically. How can I do this?

Check out SnowCrest's Kali server. SnowCrest also has a Quake II server.

I really love/hate your Quake server, who is responsible for it?

Please send fan/hate mail to Grimorden.

I've been playing on your server for a while, and I really like it. However, some of the other players have been showing their poor sportsmanship by "nuking" me. What can I do?

"Nuking" is a general term that refers to the exploitation of a bug in Windows 95 dial-up networking. Basically, it is possible for a malicious user to cause another person's machine to lock up and stop working by sending what is called an "out-of-band packet" to that machine. While this is not a Quake-specific issue, it has recently come up with regard to the quake server. Please note: SnowCrest does not condone any sort of malicious behavior, including nuking. If another player nukes you, please drop me a note and tell me who it was and what time it happened. Players who nuke consistently will be banned from the Quake server. No amount of provocation is considered to be a good enough reason to nuke someone.

The NukeNabber page has a pretty complete listing of programs you can use to protect yourself from most attacks. At a minimum you should install the latest version of Dial-up Networking and also the latest version of Winsock.

Also, Windows 98 should be immune to most forms of nukes.

Players should keep in mind that Quake is just a game, and it is FUN! Any differences you may have with other players should be resolved by killing them in the game, not by nuking their machine.

Above all, have FUN!
