Jim's August Visit

Jim arrived at 7:00 PM on August 19, 2000 in time for supper on the patio with pretty sunset clouds atop Mount Shasta. We caught up with conversation until about midnight.

On August 20, after a good breakfast and leisurely start, Jim and I headed for Panther Meadow and a hike to the top of Grey Butte. The wild flowers in Panther Meadow were abundant and beautiful. The weather was delightful and the hike scenic and pleasant. On top of the Butte we took time to savor the sweeping vistas, balance some rocks; and have a good conversation. An added touch was a string of colorful Buddhist prayer flags waving in the cool breezes. Down from Grey Butte we drove on up to the old ski bowl to get a close-up look at what we had seen as a panorama from atop Gray Butte. That evening we drove south of Dunsmuire for dinner at the Railroad Park a unique resort built from old dining cars and cabooses. It's owned by friends Del and Jim Murphy and we stopped for Jim to meet them and see the scenic setting of their beautiful new home.

Jim departed about 10 O'clock on the 21st. He was headed for a visit with his grandmother in Kremmling, Colorado via Winnemucca and Salt Lake city. He would fly back to Baltimore from Denver. It was a too brief, but most enjoyable visit from number one son.
