Mt.Shasta

LakeShasta
July 5th 1998 We drove past Lake Shasta on our way to the Blues festival up at Mt. Shasta. This is a picture taken going over the bridge. Lake shasta has about 200 miles of shorline.
LakeShastaBridge
This is a picture looking back at the bridge that we just drove over. The weather was really warming up by now and it was only 10:00AM. Note the dry grass along the roadside. The lake level is exceptionally high this year and there aren't any muddy banks yet.
Mt.ShastaCloser
About 30 minutes later we are getting closer to Mt. Shasta, nearing the small town of Dunsmuir, and Shasta Mountain beginning to really stand out. About now, I gave Irene my head phone set (walkman) and she is enjoying listening to a great tape sent to me from a friend in England. We have the windows down and are throughly enjoying the drive.
Mt. Shasta
This picture was taken about 30 minutes later, on the outskirts of Mt. Shasta. We got off the Interstate 5, and this is one of the roads that could take you to on up to the ski lodge.
BluesBand
About 10 minutes later, we have parked the car and walked over to a street that was closed off for the Blues Festival in Mt. Shasta. It was a small stage, and the music was terrific.
Food&Friends
We Sat in the chairs while tallking to friends and drinking $1.25 cups of beer and eating "British Bangors" on hot dog buns with a large tray of curly fries.
AcrossRoad
After a few beers and with a full tummy, we walked across the street to look in a some of the gift shops. There was a nice dress shop that Irene and I wanted to look in. Dennis took a picture of where we had just come from, across the street.
TryingOn
Dennis also got a picture of Irene trying on a dress over her shorts.
Mt.ShastaGolfCourse
We decided to go check out the lake at Mt. Shasta, and on way, we stopped to look at the golf course which has a fantastic view of Mt. Shasta
Van
We sat in the Van watching the golfers and thinking that someday we should give it a try.
Lake
We found the lake, and it was more beautiful than we had expected
SatDown
Dennis got a picture of us sat at the water's edge. We could see a sandy beach across the way and thought we should all go take our inner-tubes for swim.
GolfCourse
On the way around the lake, heading for the beach, we stopped to take another picture of the golf course.
Dam
The lake is actually a dam, and this is the creek that it pours into.
Distance
This is a picture that Dennis took of us still sitting at the waters' edge.
InnerTubes
Well, we finally got to the sandy beach, the water was much clearer looking than this picture portrays.
FullBeach
The beach was bustling with people, but we were still very impressed with the tranquility of it all.
COLD
Yikes.. easy does it ....it's freezing :-) It wasn't so bad once you got in, but I must admit 'my' feet never warmed up.
BridgeBay
After we left Mt. Shasta we headed home and stopped by at Bridge bay Marina for a hamburger and fries. Had a look in the gift shop and picked up a few T-Shirts.
BridgeBayMarina
After eating our burger, we walked around the deck and took a picture of the House-boats tied up at the Marina.
Leaving
As we left the Marina, I took a final picture of Lake Shasta. This is not the same lake that you see at the beginning of this sequece of pictures.
BackHome
After we got home, it was still in the 90's so we cooled off for a few minutes in the pool. It was a great day and we decided that we would do it again.
