Restoration Photos

This photograph of the Shasta River at the Ekstrom property just after the January 1997 storm shows that the fence in the foreground survived the high flows intact. The wire cages that protect riparian tree plantings are also in the photo nearer to the stream and survived intact but also caught debris. While the fence survived fine, the bank moved substantially closer to the fence as a result of erosion during the flood. If the fence had been built several years prior to the flood, increased bank stability would have prevented this soil loss.
