Quintessential element of the laid back style

1961 Ford Pick Up
Sitting side by side with at Gumboot Lake, the truck is a 1966 Chevrolet Suburban and has a 1995 Vortech 350 with a Holley aluminum manifold and Holley 600 vacuum secondaries carburetor, Mallory electronic distributor, Hooker coated headers, one wire alternator, a 700R4 transmission, 3.73 rear end gears with Positraction, new axles, a single piece driveshaft (they came from the factory with a two piece driveshaft that had a horribly unreliable carrier bearing), power front disc brakes, power steering, 36 gallon aluminum fuel tank, a radio with a CD player, all new front end bushings and bearings, new A arm bushings and lots of little things done to make it easy to drive and service. Runs great but gets about 10 mpg. I have considered fuel injection but that runs around $1500 to $2000. It might be worth it if I get 2-3 more mpg over 50,000 miles both in economy and engine longevity. It originally had air conditioning but the aluminum pieces under the dash were broken and no aftermarket parts are available. It needs new window channel and rubber but that comes later. As far as paint - well, no one messes with it as it looks so I'll probably keep it that way.

What is the essence of laid back? Cactus apples fat as your fist, yellow, orange and red. Crosses by the side of the road. High up in the eucalyptus Pepperberries hanging pendant.

Who knows the meaning of laid back? Anyonymity, contentment, repose, purity. My vessel was drained, today it is filling, wax and wane.

I surround myself with old friends, together we practice the old ways, a recluse from family. The ways of the Red Dust disgust. Rejoice in the plain, content with what the River of Life brings to the door. Rich beyond counting is laid back.
