    Abies

  • Abies alba GREEN SPIRAL   Weeping   Large   Green   This fir has dark green glossy needles, with twisting stems spiraling outward and down. Deep green, stylish habit, and moderate size make this an excellent focal point.

  • Abies balsamea NANA   Globose   Dwarf   Green   The popular dwrf balsam fir has deep green, glossy needles that emerge in the spring a soft light green, darkening as the season advances. Needles are short and flattened. A nest spruce look alike. Needs some shade and good moisture. Known since before 1866.

  • Abies Koreana SILBERLOCKE SEEDLING   Globose   Miniature   Green   Tiny deep green needles with silver undersides highlight the pearly white budgs during the fall and winter months. The short stiff branches of this miniature Korean Fir form a dense globe.

  • Abies pinsapo AUREA  Upright Broad   Large   Yellow   Attractive yellow needles that are rigid and tapered, radiate from the branches. This golden form of Spanish fir is hardier than the species. Best color is achieved in full sun, but may need some protection in warmer cummer climates.

  • Abies pinsapo HORSTMANN  Globose   Dwarf   Blue   This fir is slow growing and globose. The short blue gray needles give it an almost cacti-like appearance even though it has the typical blunt pinsapo tip. In the spring, red stamens add additional interest.

  • Cedrus deodara SNOW SPRITE  Upright Broad  Intermediate   Yellow   This mounding, compact grower has ivory white new growth, turning creamy yellow. While a leader will develop with age, the plant remains small and compact compared to the species. A distsinctive plant best grown in part shade.

This striking columnar lant becomes multi-leadered when mature. Prefers shade but can handle full sun, also drought and heat tolerant or deer resistant focal point.

  • Cryptomeria japonica SPIRALIS    Upright Broad   Intermediate   Green   Medium green needles spiral around the branchlets forming twisted ropes of ringlet-like foliage. It is densely branched globe form whenyoung. With maturity it will develop a leader and a broad upright habit.

In the fall, there is a glow of yellow before the needles drop to reveal tawny twigs. This colorful seasonal change is a refreshing contrast to evergreens in the landscape. With age, branching divides and spreads. Prefers a moist soil in the summer.

Tiny dark green leaves on a globose shaped plant. Despite its tiny size this is a tough, hardy plant only needing protection from the strong afternoon sun and, more importantly, protection from foot traffic!
