A Special Mount Shasta Autumn

Even the oldest old timers admitted that the fall colors of 1999 were the most spectacular they had ever seen. While all the deciduous trees and shrubs were more colorful than usual, it was the oaks that made the big difference. Just the right combination and duration of crisp but not freezing nights and sunny, dry days had produced vivid red-orange leaves on the oaks instead of the usual dull brown. Naturally, I tried to capture this rare extravaganza of fall colors on film. Like all attempts to preserve the fleeting beauty of a season this one was doomed to failure, but for what it's worth I present a few of the attempts that at least give a hint of what this special Mount Shasta Autumn was like.
