Ed and Astrid Tucker's visit

Ed and Astrid Tucker arrived in the early afternoon on September 14, 2000. Ed was a fraternity brother at the University of Kansas. We hadn't seen each other in more than 40 years. As often happens when guests arrive, Mount Shasta was in hiding as a light drizzle fell. This gave us an afternoon and evening to catch up on what had transpired in our lives in the past 40 years. Great fun!

Happily September 15 dawned mostly clear and Mount Shasta was back in view. Since this was a one day visit we filled it to the brim. After an early breakfast it was up on the mountain and a hike from Panther Meadow to the summit of Gray Butte. After this scenic and invigorating trek we dropped back into town and a walk down Mt. Shasta Boulevard. Back home for lunch before the afternoon outing that took us to the Sisson Museum for a quick study of local history; then up to Castle Lake -- weather and views perfect. That evening we had dinner at Lily's.

Ed and Astrid departed in the morning on September 16. They were headed for the Bay Area to see other friends. From there they would turn back east toward their home near Nathrop, Colorado. It had been a short but very pleasant visit.
