The FDA should not be overriding yours
& your doctors 'informed' decisions
about what is best for your body.
In California, doctors are not allowed to treat cancer
with anything except chemotherapy,
radiation or surgery. Medicine should be a matter
of personal choice. I'm proud to
live in our free country, but sadly we are denied the
guardianship of our own health.
Alternative medicine is generally
that which the FDA and AMA does not recognize.
All medicine was once classified
as 'alternative', including vaccines.
Eighty percent of American consumers
have used some form of alternative medicine.
German physicians prescribe
St.
Johns Wort 7 times more than Prozac.
Thirteen states now practice what
is considered 'alternative medicine'
which includes midwifery, acupuncture,
message therapy, & bio-feedback/meditation.
Just recently (Feb.1998) there
were Senate hearings held with
the purpose of
finding a 'legal' way of allowing
terminal patients greater access to alternative medicine.
Health is our constitutional right.
Our government should allow us the right to chose
'our' preferred medical treatment.
As a consequence to these hearings the
Access
to Medical Treatment act was passed.
The NCI (National
Cancer Institute) has spent $10 Billion in research over the past
five years, yet cancer patients
are still left with the same limited treatment options such
as radiation, chemotherapy or surgery
- - all very costly and debilitation, with little
increase in life expectancy.
