HYAMPOM FIRE- UPDATE 12:13 PM 09/03/01- Monday- WATCHING THE WINDS...measured speed at Hayfork Bally is 22mph at 12:35pm...it is flaring up the fire, eyes in the sky and on ground watch for changes.

HYAMPOM FIRE- UPDATE 11:27PM 09/02/01 Sunday- GOOD NEWS-
(This is NOT offiicial release, the public information officer got busy with the "real"media
when I find that info I will update and link to this page) After extensive air attack with tankers and choppers all afternoon as the 25-30 MPH winds
blew the fire over established lines, then in new directions, then back into itself, then the wind
died way down. Engines stood by near homes and other structures while the bombing and ground attack continued. As evening arrived, some equipment and crews were released with more in morning if all goes well. END OF UNOFFICIAL UPDATE.

Sorry ..However, Scaner /Ham Radio Traffic Monitored seems to indicate "Fire pretty well knocked down, no new hot spots" heard from aircraft above 11:20AM today).. All unofficial indicators look The absence of related fire radio traffic to this fire on "County Fire Net" is good sign!. Last night (Sat) indications were that it was still inside the perimeter they were putting lines around, fire on ground NOT in tree tops,etc and the weather/wind cooperated all night..Reminder these are NOT official statementes..just my impressions... HYAMPOM FIRE UPDATE-UPDATE: 2PM 09/01/01 Saturday- Thanks to the on-scene USFS PIO who gave info directly to me via amateur radio- SIZE OF FIRE- about 500 acres(has not grown significantly during night) , burning in steep difficult terrain, they are encircling the fire trying to hold fire inside of the lines. If there is high wind
this will be more difficult. The wind is presently NIL, the forcast is 5-15 MPH,

HYAMPOM FIRE PRIOR INFO NOTE: THIS IS ORIGINAL INFORMATION--Start of Fire Location- On Hyampom Road, 6 miles from Hwy 3...at 6:22 PM CDF air observer estimated it will enter the Hayfork Valley in 45 min to an hour (7:07 pm)...Size- 400 ACRES+ with fire "crowning" in the tree tops...approaching Ranches..1 STRUCTURE INVOLVED- Highland Drive (start unrelated to vegetation fire)...6 Air Tankers and 4 choppers flew until dark, .0700 Burning in rugged terrain on Thompson Ridge....No out of county mutual aid requested , however resource list from Shasta County requested for morning..determination to be made 6 AM.... Fire progressing into the valley, but slowing down it's progress..
