BISHOP BARRY BEISNER VISITS ST. BARNABAS

On September 27th, the people and friends of St. Barnabas Church were joined by our Bishop, the Right Reverend Barry Beisner, for the formal consecration of the church, now that - after twenty-two years - the mortgage indebtedness has been fully discharged. In a festive service with 102 in attendance, the church was set apart as sacred space dedicated to the worship of God and the ministry of God's people, two young women - Audra Parkin and Kirstyn Teuscher - were confirmed, and Benito Sagra was received from the Roman communion. Following the service, the mortgage was burned, with the assistance of our longest-attending member, Claudia Wagner, and one of our youngest congregants, Ben Martin, after which all present joined in a magnificent luncheon provided by the congregation's Episcopal Church Women.

The presence of a number of special guests added to the joy of the occasion, including: the Very Reverend Jeff Frost, dean of the Superior Deanery of the Diocese of Northern California (the deanery of which St. Barnabas is a part); Mrs. Howard Park, widow of the priest who was instrumental in building the church in 1987; the Venerable Beatryce "Cookie" Clark, Archdeacon of the Diocese of Northern California; the Reverend Julie Smith, our former Vicar, and her husband Tom; and the Reverend Canon Valerie Rampton, a priest of the Church of England serving our sister congregation, All Saints, Beckingham, Lincolnshire.

This was a significant and blessed milestone in our life as a congregation. And with 102 voices singing, we certainly "raised the rafters," especially on the recessional, the chorus of which - "All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place" - perfectly expresses the spirit of hospitality we are striving to actualize in everything we do here at St. Barnabas.
