The Economy Stupid

This "hobby" can probably succeed if it is aimed at customers who do not have to drive over to our store. In our rural County, it may be many miles just to get to a store, so it becomes easier and saves money too, to order from catalogs and have things shipped in. This can create a climate where it is even harder to sustain a business in a sparsely-populated county. Add in the new InterNet World Wide Web, and online catalogs, and with faxes, it just doesn't make any sense to try and limit the county vision to tourism and our own personal business plan to local only.

Over and over, it has appeared to me that most of the local quasi-public agencies that promise to improve the local job climate, do a lot of work until they secure the funding for their own jobs for another year or two, and then they lose interest. I finally understand why they lose interest, but more on that later.

What I am good at, is in creating new layers of reality, and I am going to tell you how, if you will keep tuning in to this story.

The reason that this had to manifest thru a form of electronic bulletin board is that for over a decade, I worked on a computer program just like this, to facilitate an alternative economic system, that would be based in barter units, as well as in dollar units. I called it "The State of Jefferson".

It could also have been used to take citizen input, so that thru the electronic bulletin board, we could actually realize participatory democracy, an operating system based on "of-the-people", "by-the-people", and "for-the-people". The dream never really died. It just took a while for technology to catch up, and become affordable.

So, now that you know the "rest of the story", would you like to participate in an alternative economic system, a kind of barter club, that uses information as the databank, and helps to facilitate work projects in the private sector? It blurrs the difference between paid work and barter work and between both of these and volunteer work.

The important thing to remember is that we all need something constructive to do. And also even when the cashflow in dollars is stagnant, we always still have barter. And of course, we always have volunteer work, friends doing things for friends. Well, do you want to be a part of an experiment in developing such a system for real, both to help stimulate the local economy here, and to serve as a "resource model" for other communities worldwide?

If you do want to be a part of it, I need some help. I am only one human being. I need some angels who will pitch in and help this all happen. I have my own personal priorities. I can't do it all by myself. Truthfully, I already have too many irons in the fire.

My real job is transcending, going out ahead of us, and building new layers of reality. That is my key job. I can also advise others on how to transcend from where you are, to one of my older layers of reality. I can't bring you all to the same layer that I am highest at. Someone has to be at the top, to hold it all together. That's me. The only reason that I know the lines for this part is that I already did it.

I need some champions to take on some of the projects that I have started, and do the everyday stuff. If you want to see this happen, I need a support group. It can even be online. Just send me some inspiring language every so often.

If I had neighborhood champions, who would take inputs from all their neighbors, and type it into computer files, I could quickly build up a data base of "wantads" that can reknit the web of our reality into this new plane. We basically have to find out what each of us has to offer and wants from others, and try to use computer-matching to fill these needs, in some fair manner.

The Aug/Sept 1993 issue of the Mother Earth News, has a cover article, The Ultimate Barter, about a local money used in Ithaca, New York. I suggest some start researching other barter experiments that work.

My program kept accounts, like a bank account, and items had a dollar value, but instead of exchanging dollars, within the circle of members, equivalence units, i.e., barter units, could be deposited and withdrawn from the accounts.

Truthfully, if we keep on holding back on developing this, our society may come completely unraveled. We need to use the modern technology now available, to create the world the way we really want it, in this non-ordinary reality.

Then, as time goes on, this meta-model of an alternative economic system will be available in ordinary reality. The name is "AutoBarter", unless someone has a better name.

Gradually, I will be releasing many of my archival documents, to those who I feel can appreciate them.

I don't even think that it is necessary anymore to have special programs to do this, due to the InterNet and BBS software, so easily available, and UseNet newsgroups and HTML forms, to handle much of the data input.

With a little encouragement, I think that I can recreate the old mental model, or meta-model, from my old TRS-80 program, that I worked on so long.

Don't expect results too suddenly. It takes time to take lots of data input, and arrange it into some semblance of order. The easiest thing is to use Usenet newsgroups, and maybe some utilities to search them, might be needed.

There are some things that I have not learned about yet, the Common Gateway Interface, that can link InterNet access to a database on a PC, and this is probably what we really want.

Forgive me for being bossy, but I have decades of ideas all waiting to happen now. These ideas of what should be done, seemed like Utopian ideals back then, but now they are what we need to do to weave the fabric of our reality back together. It is time.

First of all, I want to initiate the "Self-Employed Workers Collective". This means that we cooperate together to give each other business, when we can, as opposed to buying stuff or services from a bigger company. Back in Houston, I heard a colleague talk about one like this of programmer consultants. They would help each other find work, and paid each other a 10% finders fee. It worked very well.

Secondly, I want to initiate something very down-to-Earth, and necessary: Local Food Self-Sufficiency First. This is an old theme. It means that everyone who is able to, can have a vegetable garden and fruit trees, and become self-sufficient for a lot of their own food. Then, we need to organize to utilize the extra food that we grow, so that it is not wasted, and so that we can find locally-grown produce during the gardening season. So, here put links to the local farmers' markets, in season.

Thirdly, I want to initiate another very necessary activity: Transportation. For those who don't have any, this is a very big deal. And in our county, with things so many miles apart, anyone without their own "wheels" is in very big trouble indeed. So, a "carpool matching service" is very much needed. Fourthly, I want to initiate that very limiting necessity: Tools.

At first, a lot of this will follow familiar patterns and be a kind of glorified yellow pages. As times evolve, I expect to see this new union of our consciousnesses in non-ordinary reality, create brand-new businesses and organizations, based entirely in the higher realms. This may take time to materialize. For those who are ready, who don't "freak out" when they try to think in "new paradigm" levels, this can be a reality now. For those slower to catch up to us, we have to adopt mechanisms for networking with them, in "old paradigm" levels.

FIRST TIME EVER DOCUMENTED This is the first ever, time, that such a translation between two realities will be so well-documented. Of course, having affordable computers and the InterNet helps a lot.

I want to emphasize that I am not inviting you to create a brand-new reality, but just to learn how to crystallize your own personal new reality, within the established framework of one that is already a stable quantum level, and "holds together in a regular pattern".

When I say that last phrase, I mean that the energy of the atoms doesn't fly apart. It lasts.
