The Transportation Development Act (TDA) (Link to Caltrans website)
Created by California's legislature in 1971, TDA is funded by two sources: the Local Transportation Fund (LTF) and State Transit Assistance (STA). LTF is derived from one-quarter cent of the general sales tax collected statewide, while the STA is comprised of the statewide excise tax on gasoline and diesel fuel. TDA funds fluctuate with the economy and the annual state budget. The SCRPTA annually determines the amount of TDA funds for allocation within its jurisdiction. TDA is the primary source of funds for public transportation.
