Hemp is spun from sliver which comes from the bark of the industrial hemp plant.

Hemp cannot be grown locally, because it is erroneously classified by the powers that be, along with its THC producing cousin, as a drug. Solomon's handspinners must import the sliver from other countries which makes the product much more expensive than if it were grown domestically.

There is legislation pending in many states which would allow growing industrial hemp.
