PHOTOBOB

Im a native Californian, born in 1944 and raised in San Francisco. I relocated to Dunsmuir in 1990. I majored in photography at San Francisco City College and studied under many of Richard Steinheimers instructors.

As a photographer in the US Army Special Photography Unit I was stationed in Panama. My position was to make documentary films throughout South America under the direction of President John F. Kennedy's personal photographer.

My main photographic interest is railroading. As a high school student my work was used by the Southern Pacific Railroad for their Public Relations Department. That relationship lasted till the merger with the Union Pacific. Amtrak has used my work for their Travel Guides and brochures. I also have a permanent exhibit of my Western Pacific "California Zephyr" photos at Disneys California Adventure.

When not shooting trains I enjoy my yearly trips with my wife Rhian to the UK. Some of my landscapes of the UK are shown in the landscape section of my website.

As for the equipment I shoot with I still prefer medium format cameras. I am currently using a Pentax 67. My early photos from the 60's were shot using a twin lens Mamiyaflex. I shoot both b&w and color negative film as I am not much of a slide guy. I have a Canon Elan 7 for my down and dirty jobs and I still enjoy shooting with my 4X5 Speed Graphic. I do all my own darkroom work here in Dunsmuir.
