Day Nine

Class Notes for Tuesday, September 18, 2001
Ms. Highet explained what is needed for the summaries we hand in for our journals. She wants them to be short, giving only the main points of the article we have read. (MzH adds: remember to include citation to the article on your summary)
The first instructions for the essay paper we will write have been posted on the website.
Ms. Highet then discussed the papers turned in last week about heroes. She advised that we need to choose a point of view when writing in this manner and not sit on the fence. Several selections from the students papers were read.
The class got into their groups and discussed Mark Helprin's article. Each group was assigned several writing techniques to find in his story and then report to the class on them. These will be finished during the next class.
Ms. Highet reminded us to check the homework webpage for any updates. Papers from last week were returned.
