What a wonderful day! The weather was great, the course was steep, and the crowd was large. With just three weeks to pull this event off, I think WSR was impressed on the turnout. We had 52 Racers enter 18 Hillclimb events and 14 Hillcross events. We had over 200 entries at admissions. The Ski Park had hot food and their bar was opened. Several racers camped out at the Ski Park Friday night to help them get an early start to the day.
Although the races started later than planned, it was do to the overwhelming turnout of Racers, some entering 5 or 6 different classes. Registration took longer and WSR was under staffed for such a large turnout. The Mt. Shasta Sno-Mobilers filled in the gaps and soon we had racing underway.
With 99 runs up the hill by the Racers to cover the Hillclimb entries, it took quite a bit of time to finish their first run. We only had one Racer come off his sled in the early class’, and as his sled headed down the hill without him, the audience got very loud yelling to try and save his sled from the oncoming trees. Maybe the audience helped. Even though the sled hit the trees, it came out with only a broken bumper, broken front of the hood and some ski damage; it didn’t get the pipe. And he was out riding his sled again! After they finished all the first runs, they did it all once again for a second run. The quickest of the two runs won their class.
There were 14 Hillcross events, some with 8 Racers on the course at once. These races were very exciting. Some of these guys looked like a bouncing ball on top of their sled as they raced up their mogul course. It was hard to believe how fast these guys were hauling up the hill. These Racers also received two runs, with the best of two winning their class.
It was 8pm by the time we were able to announce the results and hand out prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. $2121.00 was handed back to race winners. By the time the awards were over it was 9pm. It was a very long day for everyone.
Thank you to the Mt. Shasta Board & Ski Park for providing such a great facility, hill, food and beverages for the event. Thank you to WSR for handling all the racing activities. And thank you to all the Mt. Shasta Sno-Mobile Club volunteers that went the extra mile to make sure this event was a success.
Please click on the following links below for PDF formatted race results. I did not get a copy of the Hillclimb results, but will post them as soon as Neil from WSR gets them to me. Also, keep checking back, I’ll post pictures as soon as I receive them too.
