‘Groomer Operator Guide Lines’. Chuck groomed season after season until after his heart surgery in Sept. ’97. With the snow still on the ground in ’98, Chuck was back out on the trails. Although he wasn’t strong enough to groom, he rode his sled around and was in contact with the Forest Service about trail conditions. That summer Chuck got to see the groomer shed at 4-corners go up and was very excited. With the passing of Chuck in ’99, our Club has felt a great loss. He helped keep us all together and taught us the importance of patients and perseverance. None of these wonderful things would be in our area without Chuck Best!
Once you met Chuck, you could never forget him. He was always introducing himself to new snowmobilers and taking them for tours of His area. He was always available to help a snowmobiler in need, whether they were lost, broke down, or just need a buddy to ride
down, or just need a buddy to ride with. He spent countless hours of volunteer grooming and devoted himself to snowmobiling. Every opportunity that came up, Chuck would promote snowmobiling in His area. These are only a few examples of why we wanted to honor Chuck’s memory by changing the name of the first Snowmobile Park in the Tri-Forest area, to the ‘Deer Mt/Chuck Best Memorial Snowmobile Park’.
CNSA awarded Chuck Best their “Doug Forrester memorial Grooming Award” for the snowmobile year 1999-2000. It was awarded posthumously
during the 2000 CNSA Convention. Chuck was the first of many to receive this distinguished award. The plaque reads: “Chuck gave his all since the 1970’s and has left his mark in the Tri-Forest area, Mt. Shasta Sno-Mobilers and CNSA. He groomed trails in the winter and marked them in the summer. Chuck loved grooming more than snowmobiling! Everyone who knew him will miss Chuck. Our Memory of you will not be diminished by time.” This award is on display at A&R Power Sports located at 2121 Fairlane Road in Yreka, CA.
