Snowman Tutorial

For this tutorial I used PSP7.
This tutorial requires some knowledge of
working with layers and selections.
You will need to download the zipped file HERE which contains 6 Tubes and 8 Selections, and the snopatt.jpg pattern fill. You will need to unzip it and place the selections (.sel) in the Selections folder in PSP - if you do not have a Selections folder, create one in PSP and then place the Selections you have unzipped in it. Open the snopatt.jpg, and the tubes in psp so that they are ready to use.

1. Open a new image 600x600, background transparent.
2. Create a new raster layer, and name it body.
3. Browse to your selections folder, and open up vs_snobody.sel
4. Flood fill with white and while still selected, go to Layers>new raster layer, and name it bodycoutout.
5. Now go to effects>cutout, and these are the settings I used.

6. Now you can deselect. Go back to the layers palette turn off Layer 1(blank layer) in the layers palette, and make sure that you have one of the snoman layers as the active layer..now go to Layers>merge visible, and rename this merged layer body.
7. Now back up to layers>create new raster layer, and name this layer scarfend.
8. Browse to your selections folder, and open up vs_scarfend.sel. Flood fill with color or pattern of your choice. I used red.
9. While still selected, go to effects>3D>inner bevel, and these are the settings I used:

9. Now back up to layers>create new raster layer, and name this layer scarf.
10. Browse to your selections folder, and open up vs_snoscarf.sel. Flood fill with color or pattern of your choice. I used red.
9. While still selected, go to Layers>new raster layer, and name it scarfcoutout.
10. Now go to effects>cutout, and use the same settings as in step #5. Then selections>select none.
11. Now back up to the layers palette, and turn off all layers except scarf and scarfcutout. Then make sure that either the scarf or cutout layer is the active layer, and then go to Layers>merge visible, and rename this merged layer scarf, and then go to Effects>3D>Drop shadow, and use these settings:
You can now turn your other layers back on
This is what you should have now:
12. Now back up to layers>create new raster layer, and name this layer hat.
13. Browse to your selections folder, and open up vs_snohattop.sel. Flood fill with color or pattern of your choice. I used black.
14. While still selected, go to layers>create new raster layer name this blur, and with the foreground color set to grey #808080, use the airbrush tool with these settings:
and draw a curved line like so:
15.Now keeping the hat selected, go to Effects>Blur>Gaussian Blur and set it to radius 9. Then turn off all your layers except hat and blur. Then make sure that either the hat or blur layer is the active layer,and go to Layers>Merge Visible, and rename this merged layer hat. You can now turn your other layers back on.
This is what you should have now:
16. Create a new raster layer, and name it brim.
17. Browse to your selections folder, and open up vs_snobrim.sel
18. Flood fill with black and while still selected, go to Effects>3D>Inner bevel, and use the same bevel settings as in step #9.
This is what you should have now:
19. Now back up to layers>create new raster layer, and name this layer head.
20. Browse to your selections folder, and open up vs_snohead.sel. Flood fill with white.
21. While still selected, go to Layers>new raster layer, and name it headcutout.
22. Now go to effects>cutout, and use the same settings as in step #5. Then selections>select none.
23. Now back up to the layers palette, and turn off all layers except head and headcutout. Then make sure that either the head or cutout layer is the active layer, go to Layers>merge visible, and rename this merged layer head. Then to Effects>3D>Drop shadow, and use same drop shadow settings as in step #11. You can now turn your other layers back on

Looks good doesn't it? :o) Okay, now take a break, stretch, get a soda, and then lets move on to finishing this up.
