Hearts and Flowers Door Hang_pg3

1. Okay, now that we have our heart all done, go up to the layers palette, and make the vectored layer the active layer and then right click on that layer and choose convert to raster.

2. Now at this point, you can either leave that heart alone, add a bevel to it, or add some shading to it the same way that we shaded the inside heart on page 1. I shaded mine...so go ahead and play with it, and decide which way you want it.

3.Now you have your outside heart looking the way you want it, and we are going to add the hanger at the top. So, add a new vector layer.

4.Set your foreground color to #735367, and your background color to null. click on your draw tool and use these settings:

  • Point to point
  • Width 9
  • Antialias CHECKED
  • Create as vector CHECKED
  • Close path UNCHECKED

    5. Left click once just below the center crevice of the heart and just slightly to the left(this is node 1 below), then move your mouse up a ways and left click once again(this is node 2 below), and then move your mouse back down to end up right next to where you started and left click once again(this would be node 3 below). This is what you should have:

6.Now right click on node 1 and choose Node type>Symmetric, now swing that little arrow out just a bit to the right. Now right click on node3, and choose Node Type>Symmetric and then swing the little "circle" out to the right just a bit. Then right click node 2, and choose Node type>Symmetric and you should end up with a nice curve at the top..if you want it a little wider at the top, just pull on your "arrow" and "circle" a bit to widen it out at the top. When you have it the way you want, then right click and choose Quit node editing and then up to Selections>Select none. This is what you should have now:

7.Now go up to layers, and choose Convert to raster. Now use your selection tool set to rectangle, Antialias CHECKED, and draw a rectangle around your loop you made, then left click on your loop and you should have your marching ants around the loop.

8.Now use your airbrush tool with your foreground color set to the lighter color and your background color set to your dark color, and add some highlights and shading to give your lop some dimension. Use the same settings on your airbrush that we used for shading the inside heart, except that you might want to change the size to a bit smaller..I used a size of 55. When you have it shaded the way you like it, go up to Selections>Select none.

9.Now go up to your layers palette, and move your loop layer to the bottom. Then go to Layers>Merge visible, and this is what you should have now:

10.Okay..Now one more detail before you decorate your heart..we need a screw to hang it up with..so add a new raster layer, then go to Layers>Arrange>move to top. Set your background color to #BBAA76, and your foregound color to null. Using your preshapes tool set to ellipse, line width 1 Antialias CHECKED, Create as vector UNCHECKED hold down your shift key and draw a small circle like this:

    11. Now working on the same layer, set your foreground color to black, and the background color to null, and use your draw tool set to point to point, line width 1, Antialias CHECKED, Create as vector Unchecked, and then click once on the left hand side of that little circle and then on the right hand side click once again, and then move your mouse off of your canvas and left click. This is what you should have now:

    12. Now go to Effects>Texture>Sculpture> and choose the Gold preset from the presets dropdown menu. Use the default settings for everything else, then click okay..and there you have it..a screw head like this:

Okay...that's it..you can merge all layers visible and save it as it is, or add a new layer and decorate it with some floral tubes and a favorite bow..add some stitching to it!! There are all kinds of possibilites! Just remember to add a new layer for each so that you can move them around until you get them placed the way you like. I am leaving the decorating up to you :o) Have fun with it! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial.
