| Awareness Ribbon The AIDS Awareness Ribbon, or red ribbon, is commonly seen adorningjacket lapels and other articles of clothing as asymbol of solidarity and a committment to the fight against AIDS.The Ribbon Project was conceived in 1991 by Visual AIDS, a NewYork-based charity group of art professionals that aimsto recognize and honor friends and colleagues who have died or are dyingof AIDS. Visual AIDS encourages artsorganizations, museums, commercial galleries, and AIDS support groups tocommemorate those lost to AIDS, to creategreater awareness of AIDS/HIV transmission, to publicize the needs ofPersons With AIDS, and to call for greater funding ofservices and research. The Ribbon Project remains a powerful force in spreadingawareness of AIDS and stressing the need for furtheraction and research of the disease. The sincerest hope for the RibbonProject is that it will one day no longer be needed.
It is over 25 YEARS since the first case of AIDS was diagnosed. I still wear a red ribbon... I remember friends who have died I will continue to fight for a cure to AIDS/HIV.
