Seeing Things Differently – The Dalai Lama and Our Divided World
“With extraordinary empathy and insight, Iyer shows how cultures collide... how a dance of dreams and desires and preconceptions ensues every time a visitor and a local meet.” -Salon.com
Pico Iyer, a part-time Santa Barbara resident, describes himself as a “global village on two legs.” Named one of 100 “writers who could change your life” by Utne Reader, Iyer is an acclaimed and perceptive observer of Asia and Buddhism and the author of several books including Sun After Dark, Abandon, and The Global Soul. Iyer’s most recent book The Open Road reflects on his revered friend, the Dalai Lama’s ideas and work as a religious leader, politician, scientist, and philosopher.
Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Prayers and Teachings to Prevent Conflict
I believe that to meet the challenge of our times, human beings will have to develop a greater sense of universal responsibility. Each of us must learn to work not just for his or her own self, family or nation, but for the benefit of all mankind. Universal responsibility is the real key to human survival. It is the best foundation for world peace, the equitable use of natural resources, and through concern for future generations, the proper care of the environment.
~ His Holiness the Dalai Lama
