Physical Descriptions and Geography of Cheirogaleus medius

The Fat-tailed dwarf lemur is a small animal, about the size of a rat. There fur is soft and woolly, sometimes silky. They have large, lustrous eyes which are sourrounded by dark rings. Fat-tailed dwarf lemurs are brownish-red or gray color, there underside is completely white. Along with the dark eye rings, Fat-tailed dwarf lemurs also have a white nasal strip as another characteristic facial feature.

The Cheirogaleus medius or fat tailed dwarf lemur inhabits both wet and dry tropical forests. They are seen on thick and medium-sized branches that are usually low down. Fat-tailed dwarf lemurs make their nests in holes in trees and this is where they lie dormant through out the drie season.

Behavior and Reproduction

Fat-tailed dwarf lemurs are nocturnal primates. They are generally solitary animals but have been seen in pairs. They are relatively quite but have a few weak calls for contact and a louder cry in antagonistic situations. Cheirogaleus medius begins mating in October. They females have an estrous cycle which lasts, on average, about twenty days. During this time the males fight viciously for the estrous females. The number of young yielded per litter is usually 2-3.

Hapalemur griseus

Physical Descriptions and Geography of Hapalemur griseus

The hapalemur griseus or the gray gentle lemur is active at all hours of the day. Its common habitat is the rainforests.

Behavior and Reproduction

The gray gentle lemur lives mostly in pairs or small social groups of 3-6 individuals, with individual male-female pairs having affiliative and affinitive bonds. This lemur is a seasonal breeder, with gestation length shorter than in most anthropoids. Infants relatively altricial (born at an early stage of development). Female lemurs have synchronous estrous cycles, which has decreased the need for sexual contests of males for females.
