Welcome to...

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Richard Hallock and I am seeking work as a full time computer instructor at the grade school level (K-8), or as a classroom teacher (K-6) in a technologically oriented school district. My ideal position would be teaching art via the use of computer technology. A selection of student generated digital art can be found on the student gallery page.

I currently hold a B.A. in telecommunications and a multiple subject teaching credential from California State University, Chico. At present, I am also pursuing a master's degree in Instructional Technology there.

Over the years I have used a great variety of software and hardware. Click here for a listing of software and hardware that I am familiar with.

In 1995 I started designing web pages. Over the past few years I have worked on a diverse range of web pages from educational pages and business pages, to personal pages and experimental publishing pages.

Work Experience

Computer Instructor, Reeds Creek School, Red Bluff, CA.
I am currently employed as the Computer Instructor in the Reeds Creek School District. With a strong emphasis on supporting classroom curricula I endeavored to advance students grades 1-8 as far as they could go. From the basics of touch typing to advanced multimedia my curriculum helped to enrich the classroom experience. I also worked at stretching the school's technology budget as far as it would go, as well as repairing broken equipment, developing the school technology plan and installing a file server.

Computer Science Teacher, Summer Science Academy, Red Bluff, CA. I taught computer science at the Red Bluff Union Elementary School District's Summer School/Science Academy for grades 4-8 from 1992 through 1997. Class topics have varied from using HyperCard for creating history and science multimedia research reports to creating digital movies on a computer. The 1996 class participated in a variety of writing and artistic endeavors including publishing a web based newsletter of classroom events at Jackson Heights school. The 1997 Class created wondrous digital art projects at Bidwell School. The work has included setting up and maintaining a file server as well as developing and teaching the curriculum. District Computer Technician, Red Bluff Elementary School District, Red Bluff, CA.
During the 1996-1997 school year I was employed as the District Computer Technician within the Red Bluff Union School district. I was responsible for assisting the district with implementation of a district wide network and repairing and maintaining computers as well as teaching basic computer operations via classes and in services to faculty and staff members at four different school sites. Some of my duties included making hardware and software recommendations and purchases, instillation of hardware and software, wiring ethernet hubs, and maintaining internet connectivity.

Instructional Assistant In Technology, Elementary Schools, Red Bluff, CA.
From 1992 through 1995 and again from 1996 through 1998, I was employed as the Instructional Assistant in technology at three Red Bluff elementary schools; Bidwell six years, Metteer two years and Jackson Heights one year. I was responsible for repairing the computers and maintaining the software as well as teaching basic computer operations to K-6 students. Some of my duties included setting up the computer laboratories, developing local area networks, and helping to develop the "student-centered, hands on" computer science curricula. I also helped teachers troubleshoot computer problems, and produced a newsletter for teachers filled with tips and tricks to help them get the most out of the classroom computer.

Computer Consultant Anderson Heights School, Anderson, CA
During the 1996-1997 school year I was employed as a computer consultant at Anderson Heights School in Anderson California. Working closely with both the Principal and the Librarian I was responsible for repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting school equipment. I also worked to ensure Internet access and in helping upgrade existing computers.

Student Assistant, California Department of Water Resources, Red Bluff, CA.
I was employed during 1991 by the Northern District office of the California Department of Water Resources as a student assistant. My duties included research projects, writing reports, ordering computer components, installing and working with various computer programs on the IBM platform, installing local area networks, repairing and upgrading IBM clones, and organizing the office computer software library. It was during this time that I learned to operate many useful programs including AutoCad and Microsoft Excel. I also acquired detailed knowledge about various hardware peripherals including tablets, scanners, and slide output printers.

Computer Assistant, CSU, Chico Laser Copy Center, Chico, CA.
In 1989 I worked as a computer assistant at the The Chico State Laser Copy Center, An IBM and Macintosh laboratory designed to produce laser printed documents (papers, fliers, posters, resumes, and brochures). While there I also acquired desktop publishing skills in both PageMaker and Quark X-Press.

President, Film Classics and Company, Red Bluff, CA. From 1985 to 1990, I operated my own Independent video production business under the business name of Film Classics and Company. I videotaped weddings, football, soccer, rugby, softball as well as inventories and houses for insurance purposes. This job gave me over 400 hours of field video production of a wide variety.

Large Projects

Over the years I have become involved with many committees and groups related to technology.
I sat on the Sir-Net development committee which developed a working plan to bring internet access to Tehama County schools.
I was a member of the Chico Macintosh Users Group for five years.
I was also a member of the Chico Atari Users Group for several years.
For four years I was involved with Bidwell School's Technology Committee and helped to aim the school toward a technologically literate tomorrow.

Desktop Publishing

Over the years I have edited a variety of desktop published newsletters. When I started the 'state of the art' desktop publishing system at CSU, Chico did not even have a hard drive! Since then I have been helping others to learn to put their thoughts and ideas on paper.

In 1985 I was the newsletter edit for the Atari Users Group of Chico.

From 1985 to 1987 I edited the CSUC Science Fiction Club's publication "An Unearthly Newsletter". This was one of the first newsletters to be published both in print form and electronic form in the guise of HyperCard stacks.

In 1986 I edited the CSU, Chico Anthropology newsletter.

From 1993 to 1995 I edited "True Tales of Computer Adventure" a newsletter distributed to teachers at the various schools I worked at dedicated to making the classroom computer more productive and useful to both students and teachers. This newsletter was filled with useful factoids and tips for getting the most out of your computer. Over the past two years this newsletter has moved to the e-mail arena. If you want to subscribe to the current incarnation of the educational newsletter (currently delivered to over 300 e-mail boxes monthly) drop me a message saying you would like to subscribe at
rhallock@rbuesd.tehama.k12.ca.us

In May of 1996, I helped Bidwell School coordinate their "Net Day '96" activities with the rest of the district, and prepared a multimedia kiosk and presentation for the event.

In 1995 I took several classes in Web publishing and HTML, and since then have been helping educators and students develop their own web pages. I am currently working with students and educators at Reeds Creek School to create a web page to showcase student projects and community activities. That page (still under construction) can be found at
