Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Route Designation Info and Links

"The process of designating roads, trails, and other areas for motor vehicle use is one of the top issues in managing the National Forests today....Motor vehicle use needs to be balanced with many different uses of our National Forests, while ensuring the protection of the land, wildlife, and other recreational visitors," Randy Moore, USFS Regional Forester for California, in the Sacramento Bee, 4/7/08.

ABOVE: OHVs include motorcycles, ATVs, and 4-wheel-drive vehicles, as well as other types of vehicles. Are you concerned about this type of unmanaged recreation on our public lands?

RIGHT: Massive slope failure on Mt. Eddy (Shasta-Trinity N.F.) caused by runoff from an unauthorized OHV route. Many unauthorized, renegade routes need to be closed and restored to protect our natural resources. The orange stick is 4 feet long. .

Randy Moore: Managing OHV use in National Forests is top priority. Excellent SacBee article by the Region 5 (California) USFS Regional Forester.
