Personal Note:

[index]

The study and practice of herbal medicine has been a part of my life for over 30 years. With allergies and headaches as a child, and adding depression as a teenager, I experienced less than perfect health throughout my childhood. By 14, I started studying diet options and tried fasts and cleanses and started cooking for myself. When hospitalized at 18 with meningitis (for which the specialists could do nothing but give me pain medication), I made a decision to take the control of my health into my own hands and away from the doctors. I called the local herb store and started studying about herbs. I continue to educate myself about herbs, diet and how the human body works.

Through these studies and practices, I have learned how to take care of myself and my family without pharmaceutical drugs or doctors. I take Wild Mountain Herbs products everyday and will tell you about my experiences with them throughout this booklet.

I am happy to be able to offer these excellent herbal medicines to my family, friends, and others. It is important to me that I know where every herb comes from that is in my products, and that each is grown, harvested, and processed with love and care. I use the finest ingredients I can find.

I am involved in this endeavor because I want to make a positive contribution to my friends, family, community, humanity and the earth. Health is everything. Health of the people leads to health of the planet.

I appreciate your interest in and support of Wild Mountain Herbs.

To Your Health!!

Bentonite Clay

Clay can be taken internally or externally and is an incredible healing agent. Clay has the power to attract and absorb and/or stimulate the evacuation of toxic and non-useful elements.

Internally, clay not only heals diarrhea and constipation but works on the whole organism. Everything unhealthy and emitting negative radiations are irresistibly attracted to clay and become subject to immediate elimination. Clay purifies, cleanses and enriches the blood. Wherever there is a deficiency, clay seems to supply the needed substance, whether or not the clay itself is rich in that substance. It stimulates deficiencies and absorbs excesses.

Externally clay can heal wounds, sores and ulcers and aid in the rebuilding of healthy tissues and cells, and even of fractured bones and vertebrae. Clay can also help to dry up poison oak and relieve pain and absorb toxins from insect bites. The list goes on.

Cautions: when using a clay pack externally, do not allow the clay to dry all the way (unless you are using a thin layer for poison oak). Replace the pack with new clay when it starts to get dry

References: 24

Directions: For external use: mix clay with water and apply thickly to affected area. When the clay gets hot or starts to dry out, replace with a new pack. For internal use: put 1 tsp clay in 8 oz. water and let it sit overnight. Drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Do this for 2 weeks, then take 2 weeks off, then 2 weeks on.

Endorsements:

Clay is in my top 3 healing agents, up with Cayenne and Garlic.

I have been using it for 30 years to heal everything from acne to digestive complaints to severe cuts and burns. It is an invaluable addition to my medicine chest. Christina

Ive used the bentonite clay on my poison oak, and found it very soothing for the itching and great at drying out the poison oak.

About Liquid Herbal Extracts:

What are they? Liquid herbal extracts are herbs that have been processed in such a way that the active ingredients are suspended in a liquid medium, usually alcohol and/or water.

How are Wild Mountain Herbs liquid herbal extracts made? Our liquid herbal extracts are made by infusing herbs, in a ground or powdered form, in precise ratios of water and alcohol for specific lengths of time in order to capture the active ingredients. The solids are removed and the remaining liquid is bottled. There is no heat used in this process.

Why use liquid herbal extracts rather than herbs in capsule or tablet form? The body must dissolve capsules or tablets before it can assimilate them. The herbs used in capsule or tablet form may have been ground months before appearing on the store shelves. They lose active ingredients through evaporation and oxidization while in storage. The extraction process puts the active ingredients into a solution, which preserves them. Liquid extracts are immediately assimilated into the body.

Why alcohol? Alcohol is by far the best way to extract medicinal ingredients from the plants. Other substances used to extract plant constituents like water or vinegar or glycerin are inferior and do not preserve the extract as well. The amount of alcohol in a dose of herbal extract is equal to the alcohol content of a ripe banana.

Note: If you want to burn off the alcohol, put boiling hot water in a cup and immediately add the dosage of extract.

How does one take liquid herbal extracts? Liquid herbal extracts can be put by the dropperful in 2-8 ounces of water. It is usually best to take herbal extracts between meals but not on a completely empty stomach.

HERBAL EXTRACTS

COMPOUNDS

Brain Food

Brahmi Compound

Brain Food is an excellent tonic for enhancing mental function, while actually improving circulation throughout the entire body, as well. Brain Food is indicated for mental stress, forgetfulness, Alzheimers (prevention and treatment), other brain disorders, and may also be helpful in the treatment of degenerative eye conditions. This formula is especially effective due to the addition of two unique herbs to the commonly used combination of ginkgo, gotu kola and rosemary. Calamus helps reduce scattered thoughts and helps improve focusing ability, while bacopa offers nervous system support and fortifies the mind. Bacopa has been used for hundreds of years in India to treat varying degrees of mental illness.

Brain Food contains the following herbs:

Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) has been used in Chinese medicine for several thousand years. European physicians write over 12 million prescriptions per month for Ginkgo to improve: circulation to the brain, mental alertness and overall brain functioning. Ginkgo increases blood flow throughout the body and brain. It has been proven to improve mental functioning, the ability to concentrate, and loss of memory. Ginkgo can help with short and long term memory loss. Ginkgo has good results with healing tinnitus (ringing in ears), vertigo, and anxiety. It can also help in the treatment of many circulatory problems including some hearing and vision problems.

Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) is a nerve tonic that gently but firmly increases mental alertness and vitality by feeding and nourishing the brain. It has sedative and anti-depressive effects and helps with nervous stress and memory loss.

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinallis) soothes the nervous system and stimulates circulation. It helps to improve memory, treat fatigue, strengthen the heart, give courage and lift the spirits.

Calamus (Acorus calamus) helps us to focus and sharpen the mind compromised by drug burnout or senility. Calamus is used in Ayurveda for the central nervous system. Combined with Gotu Kola, Calamus helps to clear the mind and relieve mental tension.

Bacopa (Bacopa monniera). Indian research shows that Bacopa improves mental function and memory and reduces learning time. It has been used to treat disorders such as neuralgia, epilepsy and mental illness.

Cautions: Not to be used during pregnancy due to the possible uterine stimulation caused by calamus. The rare possibility of any adverse action to this formula may be as a result of Bacopa, which is used as a purgative in some countries (and exists in small quality in this formula).

When I take Brain Food regularly I feel sharper and more with it, Christina

I suffered clinical depression and a nervous breakdown after the death of my parents. I couldnt feel anything. I was also displaying symptoms (similar to my grandmother) of early onset Alzheimers disease. I was fuzzy mentally. After trying several prescription anti-depressants that had bad side affects, I turned to herbs. I tried St. Johns Wort with some success. Then I tried taking the Brain Food as a preventative for Alzheimers and found that not only did my symptoms of Alzheimers completely disappear but it also helped with the depression. I am convinced that this formula saved me from a horrific set of golden years.

Merilyn Cook, Weaverville, CA, 2012

Since I have been taking Brain Food I feel like I can focus much better. I can multi-task more and I have a better, sharper memory.

Coltsfoot helps dilate bronchioles and expel mucus. It can help with bronchial congestion, difficulty breathing, chronic or acute bronchitis, irritating cough, whooping cough, asthma, and even emphysema.

Lobelia is very powerful and is effective even in very small quantities, as in this formula.

Cautions: Avoid prolonged use due to the presence of p.alkaloids in coltsfoot. Lobelia (which exists in very small quantity in this formula) is contraindicated for small children, the elderly, and for pregnancy and heart disease.

Endorsements:

I have had asthma and bronchitis over much of my life. Cough Calmer taken periodically keeps my lungs in shape and I very rarely get a cough at all. Christina

I just want to thank you for your Cough Calmer compound. I used to smoke heavily, and had for some time. I was skeptical about using anything for it since I figured it was just another smokers cough and all I could do to get rid of it was quit smoking. I decided to try Cough Calmer to see if it would have any affect. The quality of it changed considerably. My cough did not seem as deep or congested feeling. So, thanks again for a good product. I have had intermittent headaches for as long as I can remember. I spent about 10 years taking pain medication off and on, even though I was committed to a more natural lifestyle free of pharmaceutical medicines and knew that these medications were damaging to my liver and made me feel like crap. Finally, I developed this herbal formula. I use Headache Helper together with adequate water and stress reduction techniques and have been 99% pain medication free over the past 20 years.

Christina

I suffer from a rare form of migraine headache for which I previously found no relief from any type of remedy. Headache Helper is the first thing I have found that actually works and it is natural!

Heart Helper

Hawthorn/Red Clover compound

Heart Helper is a newer formula I originally made for those with physically damaged hearts that needed rejuvenation. I experimented with taking this formula myself and found it invaluable for dealing with grief and insomnia.

Heart Helper contains:

Hawthorn (crataegus monogyna) is a supreme herb for the heart and is a specific remedy for most cardiovascular disease. Studies in Europe have verified its ability to reduce heart attacks as well as lower blood pressure. Hawthorn strengthens, nourishes and tones the heart muscle and its blood vessels, keeping the heart in a healthy condition. It dilates arteries and veins, allowing blood to flow more freely, improving coronary circulation. Hawthorn helps to prevent or treat most heart disease including degenerative heart disease, arteriosclerosis, hypertension weakness of the heart muscle and heart arrhythmia. It can also help with recuperation from heart surgery or heart attack. It is an effective antioxidant and helps to maintain healthy cholesterol levels. It is also a great remedy for broken hearts and for depression and anxiety.

Red Clover (trifolium pratense) is a blood purifier and blood thinner and is used for treating toxicity of the blood. Red Clover promotes youthfulness in that it helps maintain normal blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Red Clover helps maintain normal estrogen levels during menopause, promoting healthy bones, skin, and arteries.

Stress Less

St.Johns Wort/Vervain Compound

Stress Less is good not only for stress reduction, but is also effective as a mild pain reliever and sleep aid. The combination of herbs is very effective because, during times of stress, the whole body becomes taxed. Stress Less provides support for the nervous system, and actually feeds and nourishes as well as addresses the adrenal glands with the addition of licorice root. The use of skullcap to quiet an over active mind and California poppy as a gentle sedative, in combinations with the other nerviness, make the formula an exceptional sleep aid. Reference: 15

Stress Less contains the following herbs:

California Poppy (Escholzia californica) is a mild and gentle nerve relaxant that can help one to cope with stress, tension, insomnia, and to establish excitability. It is well tolerated by children and can help children who have difficulty sleeping or who have other nervous system problems.

Catnip (Nepeta cataria) has a sedative action on the nerves and general relaxing properties.

Licorice Root (Glycyrrhizza glabra) is a tonic to the endocrine system and the adrenals. Licorice can help with exhaustion and disability due to stress. Licorice has the ability to bind together and accentuate the activity of herb formulas, while adding a sweet and pleasant taste.

Oats (Avena sativa) is one of the very best nerve tonics. It feeds and tones the nervous system. Oats can help with stress, nervous exhaustion, irritability and depression. Oats can also help strengthen a person with general debility exhaustion due to intoxicant overuse, and with nicotine withdrawal. Oats work very well with Skullcap and Vervain.

Skullcap (Scutellaria laterflora) strengthens the ability of the nerve tonics with a calming, relaxing effect on the nerves (nerve tonics feed and tone the nervous system). It both relaxes nervous tension and builds the nervous system at the same time. Skullcap can be helpful for many nerve disorders including stress, anxiety, tension, depression, PMS, tension headaches, insomnia, nervous exhaustion, hypersensitivity, and hysteria states. Skullcap works very well with oats.

St.Johns Wort (Hypercium perforatum) St. Johns Wort can be effective in treating stress and stress related headaches, anxiety, tension, restlessness, insomnia, depression, melancholy, grief and chronic fatigue symptoms.

Vervain (Verbena spp.) like skullcap, is a nerve tonic, which strengthens the nervous system and is also a calming nervine. It can be helpful for many nervous disorders including anxiety, depression, melancholy, hysteria, over enthusiasm, over exertion, tension and stress.

Toothache Tamer

(Echinacea/Spilanthes Compound)

Toothache Tamer is the only tincture I make that usually is not ingested. It is ok to swallow the tincture but its purpose is to act directly on the teeth and the gums.

Toothache Tamer contains:

Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) acts to clean as well as detoxify. Echinacea feeds the lymph system and promotes proper blood functioning, stimulating the activity and generation of white blood cells, which the body uses to fight infections. Being anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, taking Echinacea greatly enhances ones resistance to infection, and aids the body in overcoming infections of all kinds.

Peppermint (Mentha Piperita) is added to this formula to improve the taste and as a breath freshener but it is also a gentle nerve stimulant that activates nerve endings by increasing circulation therefore enhancing the action of the other herbs.

Spilanthes (Spilanthes acmella) as a numbing agent for tooth pain as well as for healing mouth disorders there is nothing like it. Spilanthes is an oral antiseptic for treating swelling, decay and mouth sores, such as canker sores, herpes and cold sores. Spilanthes is immune enhancing for the beginning phase of viral and bacterial infections.

Cautions: No health hazards or side effects are know in conjunction with proper administration of designated therapeutic doses. Discontinue use if there is any discomfort whatsoever.

Calendula Oil rapidly sooths pain, reduces inflammation and helps the body resist infection. Calendula Oil can be used in treating both large and small wounds, minor burns, scalds, bruises, chapped or cracked skin, diaper rash, athletes foot, hemorrhoids, varicose veins and bedsores. It is especially recommended for poorly healing chronic wounds, skin ulcers, abscesses and running sores. Constituents in Calendula act to restore the skins own power of recovery and stimulate the supply of blood to the skin, making it more supple and resistant to irritants.

Endorsements: I have been using St. Johns Wort salve as my all purpose salve for over 20 years. I use it on my face, hands and feet. Even though I work with the soil, I never have dry cracked hands. I use it effectively for burns and for diaper rash on babies. Christina

Thank you so much for recommending St. Johns Wort oil for the nerve damage associated with my broken leg. Five months ago I spoke with Christina Johnson because I had a three-week-old compound fracture with a damaged nerve. My foot was numb. I was in severe pain also. I started applying the oil frequently to the whole area. Within five days the symptoms were subsiding. It even helped alleviate the pain I was experiencing despite the prescription drugs I was taking. Within a couple days of using the oil the very poor circulation in my lower leg and foot improved. Finally, I am profoundly amazed at the almost immediate affect the oil had on the surgical scar and the wound that resulted from the incision coming apart. The wound has a scar that is smooth with non-raised skin; the area is discolored but has already begun to fade. I also have complete sensation over the scar area. Because the oil helped so much I recently tried it again when I badly stubbed my toe. The entire toe was swollen and bruised up into my foot. I started applying St. Johns Wort Oil frequently. Two days later the bruise was healing and the pain was gone. By the third day the bruise was gone! This stuff is great! Thank you so much for turning me on to it. Kathie Fisher, Willow Creek, CA

Thank you so much for your wonderful St. Johns Wort!!! I had a fall while camping and had a resulting black eye. I used the St. Johns Wort Oil to see if it would help me. I was pleased and surprised at how quickly the discoloration around my eye and cheek healed. This was a nasty black eye and within a week it was almost skin color Thanks for a great product. Endorsements: I was extremely overexposed to the sun in my youth and have a lot of sun damage. I have been able to lighten and eliminate the damage on my skin and I am the only one in my family who has not has skin cancer removed, due to this formula. It also makes my skin softer than any cream/lotion Ive tried-Christina

I am 58 years old and due to years of excessive sun exposure, I developed skin cancer. I had seven visits with the dermatologist to remove Squamous and Basal Cell Carcinoma. After a couple of months, one spot by my eyebrow came back and a new one developed on the back of my hand. I found out about Yew Tip Salve and applied a small amount to my cancerous areas every day. After several weeks, they became smaller until they eventually disappeared! I continue to use this for other skin irritations as well. What an amazing and wonderful natural remedy.

Marc Nesby, Redding CA 2012

I couldnt live without Yew Oil. My skin is so sensitive and fair. I use Yew Oil all the time, especially on my face, neck, and chest where there is exposure to the sun. It dissolves skin cancers, heals cuts, scratches and almost any skin irritation. It absorbs well and soothes and smoothes my skin out. I always have a bottle with me. I also use it for athletes foot. It kicks it back better than anything else I have found. I cant get enough. I am astounded as its multi-purpose uses. I cant believe it. It is like gold to me. I love Yew Oil.

Nicole Tipple, Westhaven, CA

Most of my 60 years has been spent working outside in the sun. About 10 years ago, I began to notice a lot of age spots developing on my hands. I started using WMHs Yew Oil about eight months ago, and I noticed a change within a few weeks. I literally saw the age spots disappear within a couple of months. People comment on how young my hands look. I used the oil once or twice a week. The age spots are completely gone. There were quite a few. Dennis Martinez, Douglas City, CA

Root Juice + is a combination of powerful root juices that are known for their immune enhancing powers mixed with vinegar and cayenne. Root Juice + is good as a preventative medicine-an immune enhancer and a tonic to build health. Root Juice + can help heal colds, flus and many other dis-eases.

Root Juice + contains Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Cayenne Pepper, and the juices of Garlic, Onion, Ginger and Horseradish

Garlic (Allium sativum) is one of the most well-known and used herbs and is used as a home remedy in almost every culture. If I had to choose one herb to keep my family healthy it would be garlic. Garlic is one of the most effective antimicrobial plants. Garlic is anti to any harmful fungus, bacteria or virus in the body. It is a preventative as well as a treatment for colds and flu. Garlic, raw or as fresh juice, helps people with: recurrent or low resistance to infections, including frequent yeast infections; lung ailments, including bronchitis; lowering cholesterol; addressing high or low blood pressure; healing wounds by promoting cell growth and repair; digestive system support by developing good bacteria while killing the bad bacteria; and attacking parasites.

Onion (Allium cepa) is related to garlic and has some of the same properties. Onion is antimicrobial and can fight E. Coli and Salmonella among others. Onion is good for fevers and colds, coughs, bronchitis and asthma. Onion can help those with a tendency to infection and can lower blood pressure.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is good for fevers and for increasing perspiration and increasing elimination of toxins through the skin. It improves digestion and helps the body efficiently move out waste. Ginger also enhances the effects of other herbs in a formula.

Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana) helps to treat flu and respiratory ailments. Horseradish is healing as well for the digestive system and urinary tract.

Cayenne (Capsicum annuum) is a general tonic that stimulates the bodys natural defense system that in turn defends us against the common cold, cancer and disease in general. Cayenne is thought to be the most useful of systemic circulatory stimulants that speeds and assists vital healing processes, helping the body cleanse itself of toxins. It is anti-microbial, useful in treating infections and fevers by increasing perspiration to eliminate toxins through the skin.

Apple Cider vinegar is rich in potassium and enzymes and aids in digestion and is a preservative in this formula.

Caution: Horseradish should not be taken if you have stomach or intestinal ulcers or a history of kidney disease.
