On day one, the essential paddling strokes for tandem canoeing are presented on calm water, where they can be practiced without the additional complication of current. Safe boating practices and self-rescue techniques are introduced as well as stroke combinations that allow tandem paddlers to canoe with ease and precision. |
| Day two, students are introduced to easy moving water. Safety skills, essential strokes, and tandem stroke combinations are all reviewed, and the basic strategies of river running are discussed. Skill-building drills are practiced so that the paddler may gain confidence and efficiency. | ![]() |
| For the individual with prior river running experience, calm water canoeing is a great time to brush up skills, perfect strokes, improve paddling posture, and revaluate river running strategies. |

| Canoe West is small company that specializes in a high
instructor-to-student ratio. We are happy to work with canoeists who want to set up a
series of Two-Day Essentials of Canoeing Workshops, presenting more difficult paddling
strokes and/or attempting more difficult water as the student progresses. Two-Day Essentials of Canoeing Workshop costs $300.00 per canoe. Fee includes equipment & instruction. Students must provide their own transportation. |
